A paper published in the Journal of Applied Ecology by Dr Fitsum Abadi, former PhD student in our division has been nominated for the award of the Southwood Prize. This prestigious award is attributed yearly by the journal for excellent contributions of young researchers. The article was one of three runner-up papers of the 2010 edition, as mentioned in the April 2011 issue of the journal: pdf.

Involved in the development of our department since its very beginning, Michael Schaub quits us at the end of 2010. He has been appointed to the post of programme leader (Ecology of species) at the Swiss Ornithological Institute. We shall continue to collaborate with him on various projects dealing with population dynamics of endangered species. Michael will continue to teach population dynamics at our university. We wish him all the best for his future career development!
